By special request from the European Commission, the European Organisation for Conformity Assessment, EOTC, will be hosting a Workshop on 'Market Surveillance' in Relation to the New Approach Directives, which will be held on 4 and 5 April 2000, in Brussels.

This one and a half-day workshop will focus on sharing information on the current initiatives and good practices used to tackle difficulties in market surveillance in relation to the New Approach Directives. The Workshop will explore the following questions:

- What problems do we face with the existing system of market surveillance?
- How can these problems be resolved and what steps are being taken to resolve them?

The aim is to coherently present the range of current official initiatives, and to receive and discuss commentary by those who are affected by and contribute to market surveillance. This Workshop is open to all interested parties, in particular policy makers and advisors drawn from the authorities, providers and users of conformity assessment services, industry, consumers, producers and importers.

Some of the topics and issues to be explored at the workshop include:

- An overview of market surveillance;
- Strategies to Discover Non-compliance;
- Key market surveillance issues;
- Tools & Initiatives.
