ESARDA, the European Safeguards Research and Development Association, holds its 15th Symposium on "Safeguards and Nuclear Materials Management" in the Vatican City from 11 to 13 May 1993.

An association of European organizations (principally the nuclear energy authorities of the Member States of the European Communities and the European Atomic Energy Community, with the participation of the Joint Research Centre), ESARDA was formed to advance and harmonize safeguards research and development. It also provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas between nuclear facility operators and safeguarding authorities.

The symposium will comprise oral presentations from international authorities plus contributions from specialists in the safeguards field as well as technical sessions and poster displays.

Topics cover: Challenges and trends in modern safeguards; plant specific experience; measurement techniques; safeguards in highly automate plants using advanced techniques; material control and accountancy; data evaluation technology; measurement techniques; safeguard concepts and national programmes; containment and surveillance.

The proceedings will be published immediately after the Symposium.
