BASYS 2000, the fourth international conference on balanced automation systems, will take place in Berlin, Germany, on 27 to 29 September 2000, on the theme of production and transportation.

Balanced automation aims to achieve reference architectural development approaches that integrate technical solutions and human involvement. This conference will present developments and experiences for balanced automation in production and transportation systems.

Academic and industrial aspects will be addressed equally with the intention to bridge the gap and to promote an integrated view on research and industrial application.

Organisers are looking for contributions on the following topics: Distributed information and knowledge management; Multi-Agent systems and mobile agents; Intelligent decision support systems; Virtual enterprises and electronic business; Modelling, simulation and evaluation techniques; Integrated approaches for education and training; Multimodal transportation networks; and assistance systems for intelligent vehicle.

The first BASYS conference in 1995 was initiated by two EU funded projects, CIMIS.NET and FLEXYS. Whilst no longer funded by the EU, the conference continues as an open forum for the presentation of the results of EU projects.
