Second OECD conference on women entrepreneurs in SMEs
Representatives from the World Bank, regional development banks, NGOs, academics, SME policy makers and SMEs themselves are expected to attend the event, where the following three themes will be discussed.
- Improving knowledge about female entrepreneurship and its role in society and the economy;
- Improving knowledge about financing of women-owned businesses and removing obstacles in this area;
- Fostering the development and growth of women-owned businesses and their participation in international trade and globalisation.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to consider the developments that have taken place since the first OECD conference on women entrepreneurs in SMEs in 1997, and assess whether their recommendations have been taken into account by public and private decision-makers. There will also be time devoted to identifying further steps that need to be taken.
The OECD Working Party on SMEs is carrying out two projects related to the first two themes, which were the primary recommendations of the 1997 conference, and their preliminary results will be presented at the event.
Event organisers hope the conference will identify concrete policy recommendations on how OECD Member economies can benefit from encouraging women entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses.
