The Amsterdam treaty and the future of the European system of evaluation and supervision of medicinal products will be discussed at a European conference in Lisbon on 11 and 12 April 2000.

The Portuguese Minister for Health will open the proceedings, which will include presentations from Mr Robert Coleman, the Director General of the DG for Health and Consumer Protection and Vittorio Silano, the Chairman of the working group on Pharmaceuticals and is a member of the High Level Committee on Health at the European Commission.

The conference will include parallel sessions and workshops and will cover topics such as the availability of veterinary medicines, safety of biological products, pharmacovigilance, and advertising and information on medicines with the use of the Internet.
