Fifth annual seminar of Energie-Cités

The Energie-Cités network is organising its fifth annual seminar on the topic 'Local sustainable energy policy: into a renewable Millennium'. It will be held in Verona, Italy, on 6 and 7 April 2000.

The Energie-Cités network comprises 90 European municipalities from 20 countries committed to promoting local sustainable energy policy. Its scope of activity includes energy efficiency, the promotion of renewable energy policy and the environment.

This year's topic is the promotion and integration of renewable energy sources in urban areas.

Over 200 local authority decision-makers and elected representatives will present practical examples of local practice in the promotion and integration of renewable energy sources in their urban areas.

Participants will also discuss conditions for the development of renewable energy sources against the current energy context, including the opening of network energy sources to competition.

The seminar is supported by the European Commission (DG Transport-Energy, ALTENER programme) and co-organised by the Municipality of Verona. It is Energie-Cités' contribution to the Campaign for Take-Off on Renewable Energy Sources launched by the European Commission in 1999.
