Event highlights IST Mobile sector

The organisers of the IST Mobile Communications Summit 2000 entitled 'Evolving towards 4th generation' taking place in Galway, Ireland on October 1 to 4 2000, are now calling for papers, to be submitted by 2 June 2000.
Organised by Enterprise Ireland, on behalf of the EC-funded ASAP Project (with the support of the IST projects in the Mobile Domain), the annual conference provides a forum for the dissemination of results of European research initiatives in wireless and mobile communication systems and networks. This includes the terrestrial and satellite components in the context of the European IST (Information Society Technologies) Programme.
The conference also provides an opportunity for analysis of results from activities outside Europe.
Specific issues addressed relate to the ongoing research on future wireless and mobile communication systems and networks and will include the following: broadband interactive, multimedia satellites, satellite-UMTS, high altitude platforms, UMTS, mobile broadband systems, broadband wireless LANs, broadband WLL, broadband fixed wireless access, multi-point distribution systems and digital audio and video broadcasting.
The objective is to progressively extend wireless and mobile communications to include multimedia and high data rate capabilities and permit their seamless integration and interworking with future wired networks.
