As part of EUSEW 2014, DIRECTION and fellow projects BUILDSMART, NEXT-Buildings, and NEED4BE, are set to deliver a conference on nearly-zero energy buildings.

The DIRECTION project is partnering with the three other projects – BUILDSMART, NEXT-Buildings, and NEED4BE - to leverage greater market uptake and outreach of project results. Next month’s conference is a true reflection of this project clustering and represents the first joint action within this context. All the projects work on energy efficiency in buildings and, despite addressing specific areas with their own distinctive targets, they have overlapping scope. It is therefore quite natural for these four projects to come together during EUSEW to speak with a common voice drawing on their own areas of interest in the energy efficient buildings challenge.
On the agenda will be a series of themes taken from the four projects ranging from financing schemes for energy-neural neighbourhoods to data monitoring, and integrated engineering to sustainable urban development. Speakers from each of the projects will deliver their insights based on their project findings so far and will share with conference attendees their experiences of real scenarios. The event will conclude with a round-table discussion with invited policy-makers.
The conference indeed aims primarily at informing policy at regional and local level. Policy-makers and public authorities are key to promoting our projects’ concerns and to fostering consensus among various stakeholder communities including local businesses, SMEs and citizens. It is designed to show how real results in sustainability and energy efficiency can be achieved by harnessing the experience gathered through demonstration projects.
