Register now for the CIVITAS FORUM 2014 in Casablanca!
The choice of Casablanca as the host of the CIVITAS Forum 2014 formally seals the partnership in the urban mobility field between the CIVITAS initiative and transport project stakeholders in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EUROMED). The latter promotes economic integration and democratic reform across 16 of the EU's neighbours in North Africa and the Middle East. With respect to transport, this heralds a stronger era of collaboration between the EU and its EUROMED partners, spreading sustainability and helping to combat pollution beyond the Europe's borders.
Casablanca was chosen for its ambitious sustainable mobility initiatives that it introduced recently, including new public transport modes, a tramway line and integrated fare structure. It offers the ideal location for the theme of this year's Forum: urban mobility and social inclusion – planning accessibility for more sustainable cities.
In this spirit, the CIVITAS Forum 2014 is inviting all participating cities in the CIVITAS network to register for the event and apply for CIVITAS Awards 2014, particularly those that have made great strides during the last year in furthering urban transport. It is also calling on all interested stakeholders to register, contribute to and learn from the Forum.
Highlights of this year's events include site visits across Casablanca to admire the city's progress in sustainable urban mobility, as well as a brokerage event which will build on the CIVITAS 2020 calls for 2015 and offer stakeholders opportunities to develop new partnerships. A multitude of engaging sessions will take place on a variety of subjects, including clean vehicle strategies, shared cycling, clean urban freight, road safety, urban design, and the future of public transport.
Noteworthy as well is the session on open transport data and how this helps understand, share and analyse transport systems, facilitating access to different transport means for more people than ever before. Another session on European structural investment funds and how they can contribute to sustainable urban mobility strategies will also be beneficial for stakeholders such as municipalities, towns and cities.
Last but not least, there will be a session on the CIVITAS Plus results, unveiling important lessons learned from the previous CIVITAS edition. This year's Forum promises to be a trendsetting event not only for Europe, but for the Mediterranean basin and North Africa as well. We hope to see you with us in Casablanca in September!
