India-EU workshop III Coastal zone management and impact on society

INDO-MARECLIM aims at facilitating and improving the co-operation between the European Union Members States and Associated Countries and India and currently includes partners from UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Norway, involved in research topics of relevance to India. The strategy of INDO-MARECLIM is to organize and host workshops and winter school inviting European and Indian scientists, post-docs and PhDs.

There has been a growing concern globally for fisheries management and to integrate fisheries management with coastal zone management. Ecologically, coastal areas comprise of critical terrestrial and aquatic realms with valuable assortment of natural resources. Any alteration from the prevailing pattern of upwelling or monsoon, or variation in the fish catch has serious repercussions on the socio-economic scenario. Thus the ecosystems are closely linked with the socio-economic systems, which are in need of careful management actions as they are threatened by overuse and abuse by man. There are several societal issues ranging from drinking water requirements, management of suitable dwelling units, post-harvest activities etc. demanding organised attention. The aim of the workshop is to exchange scientific knowledge, strengthen the links between science, policy and practices and enhance EU-India co-operation in dealing coastal zone issues. Travel grants and accommodation shall be provided to Early bird registered EU and Indian participants.
