The Transformation of Doctoral Education: Why it Matters for Europe

The European University Association is organising an event for European and national policymakers, leaders of higher education institutions and Brussels-based stakeholders on the contribution of doctoral education to higher education, research and society.

28 March 2018 - 28 March 2018
Belgium
The European University Association (EUA) and its Council for Doctoral Education will hold an event in Brussels on “The transformation of doctoral education: why it matters for Europe”. The event will take place on 28 March 2018 at 17.00 at the Royal Flemish Academy of Sciences and Arts and will be followed by a networking reception.

Robert-Jan Smits, Director-General of the European Commission's DG for Research and Innovation, will give a keynote speech on “Innovative universities for an innovative society”. The event will also feature a panel discussion on the transformation of doctoral education into a central hub where Europe’s ambitions for higher education and research come together and are put into practice. This includes a focus on policy fields such as ethics and research integrity, Open Science, internationalisation and skills development. The event will also provide an opportunity to see the first results of an extensive EUA study on doctoral education in Europe.

The networking reception will welcome policymakers, leaders of higher education institutions and Brussels-based stakeholders.
