How did life evolve in the universe? This mammoth subject will be tackled at the 'First steps in the origin of life in the universe' conference in Trieste, Italy on 18 to 22 of September.

Looking at the transition from inert matter to cellular life forms, it will provide a platform for discussion on the origins of life on Earth. However, it will also look at the possibilities of life forms in other parts of the universe, even in our solar system.

The event has been organised with the support of the European Commission's Research Directorate-General.
