Workshop on Cloud Networks & Cloudscape Brazil: a prime EU-Brazil forum on Cloud Computing with research and industry under one roof

EUBrasilCloudFORUM to host the “Workshop on Cloud Networks” (WCN) and Cloudscape Brazil, bringing together cloud experts, research and industry practitioners to chart a course for the future of cloud computing.

6 July 2016 - 7 July 2016

Research and Industry under one Roof

Taking place 6-7 July 2016 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, the Workshop on Cloud Network (WCN) and Cloudscape Brazil will shine the spotlight on European (EU) & Brazilian (BR) excellence in cloud computing, big data & the Internet of Things (IoT), promote novel tools and services for research and business and showcase the benefits of collaborative approaches to advances in the industry.

Co-located with the annual conference of the Brazilian Computing Society (CSBC), 4-7 July, the WCN and Cloudscape Brazil will offer a prime EU-Brazil forum for both research and industry practitioners to exchange fundamental advances in cloud computing, identify new research topics and help shape the future of cloud computing.

WCN Workshop on Cloud Networks – 6 July ( targets researchers, engineers, and practitioners from academia, industry and government to share insights on advancing state-of-the-art research, including in the emerging area of cloud-based networks and applications.

Cloudscape Brazil 2016 – 7 July ( celebrates its 3rd version with an agenda revolved around the latest trends in cloud computing and its enabling role for big data and IoT, showcasing real-life examples, current collaborative projects between the EU and Brazil, and promoting future co-funding opportunities.

Headline speakers
Keynotes on policy and government come from Augusto Alburquerque, European Union Delegation in Brasília and Flavio Lenz Cesar, Special Minister Counsellor, Ministry of Communications, Brazil.

Renowned technology speakers include Demi Getschko, Member of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, Wanderson Paim de Jesus, R&D Project Manager at RNP, Lisandro Zambenedetti Granville, President of the Brazilian Computing Society (SBC), Philippe O.A. Navaux, Professor at UFRGS and Computer Science Area Director of CAPES, and Flávio Wagner, Professor at UFRGS and Member of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee.

Innovative start-ups are represented by Felipe Matos, Chief Start-up Farmer and Advisory Board Member of the Brazilian Association of Start-ups.

Shaping future research and co-operation

Special Interest Group: Cloudscape Brazil is the venue chosen for establishing a Special Interest Group (SIG) on cloud computing. Interactions between EUBrasilCloudForum, delegates and the Brazilian Computer Society will be instrumental in forming this new group chartered with structuring future research and organising technical themed workshops strengthening collaboration between research and industry.

Valuable insights come from both the WCN Call for Papers and Cloud Brazil Proceedings, a collection of position papers on current adoption trends of cloud services in Brazil and Europe, measures to build trust and transparency as key to overcoming barriers to uptake, current collaborative research and innovation actions, and policy priorities.
Outcomes of the two events will feed into a White Paper for EU-Brazil Policy Dialogue in November 2016, charting a course for capitalising on EU-Brazil collaborative projects funded by the European Commission and the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. This will be the basis for a research Roadmap on future collaboration priorities around cloud computing.

About EUBrasilCloudFORUM

EUBrasilCloudFORUM ( is the consolidated result of the efforts pooled together by representatives of the EU-Brazil Working Group set up at the EUBrazil (EUBR) workshop held in July 2014, in Brasilia.

The EUBrasilCloudFORUM project will facilitate the establishment of a cooperation model to support the technical and policy dialogues, which enables the EU and Brazil to formulate and develop a common strategy and approach for Research & Innovation in Cloud Computing in line with the priorities of each region.
