The workshop has 6 main priorities:
1. Provide a better understanding of the AVMS Directive new guidelines to be finalised by the end of 2019

2. Make the audience/stakeholders aware of the current range of available measures to promote European films and TV programmes

3. Bring together broad and diverse actors of media stakeholders to debate opportunities and new challenges for European content production/distribution

4. Stress that developing European catalogues more effectively, encouraging prominence obligations and promoting European content should be at the core of future debates and in line with the revised legislation

5. Analyse the changing nature of the digital market and discuss what opportunities for those ones making deals are currently in place

6. Encourage SVoD platforms / Broadcasters and Producers to find a fair level playing field to work on and to ensure the prosperity of high level content production/distribution in Europe

The Workshop is divided into two parts:

1. Legislative orientated: Where the main areas of interest are analysed in light of the new legislation and analytical studies recently developed on the AVMS Directive and the Promotion of European Works (1.15 hr)

2. Business orientated: Speakers will present their main content productions, their current and new deals with platforms, and finally their ideas about being more effective in promoting European content online

Moderator Michael Gubbins: Experienced analyst, journalist and consultant with expertise in film and digital media. He is the author of numerous studies and reports on changing media markets, with particular emphasis on consumer behaviour, including four editions of Digital Revolution: The Active Audience, commissioned by European film funds body Cine Regio. He is the editor of major magazines covering film (Screen International), music (Music Week) and business technology (Computing), giving him a rare overview of the transformation of consumer behaviour in a number of creative industries. Mr Gubbins is a respected speaker and chair of film industry events around Europe, and chair of national film body, the Film Agency for Wales.
