SMEs conference programme released

The preliminary programme for the third SME technology days conference, dedicated to the participation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Fifth Framework Programme, has been released.

Taking place in Porto, Portugal on 29 and 30 June, the conference will be opened by the Portuguese Prime Minister, Mr Antonio Guterres, who will be followed by the Portuguese minister for science and technology, Mr Jose Mariano Gago. European Research Commissioner, Mr Philippe Busquin, will also be present.

Five workshops will feature on the second day of the event, focussing on the role of SMEs in the thematic and horizontal programmes of the Fifth Framework programme in the following areas;

- quality of life and management of living resources
- user friendly information society
- competitive and sustainable growth
- energy, environment and sustainable development
- promotion of innovation and encouragement of participation of SMEs.

Other areas that will be discussed include the role of researchers and the role of intermediaries.
