Engineering environmental protection
Companies and research agencies involved with environmental issues from across Europe are invited to attend the event, organised by the Civil engineering materials unit (CEMU) at the school of civil engineering, University of Leeds and ISCOWA (International society for construction with alternative materials).
The conference themes include:
- the environmental challenge of the new century
- engineering of waste utilisation;
- the practice of prime materials replacement;
- control of land contamination;
- modelling for long term environmental impact predictions;
- quality assurance/quality control;
- the role of legislation.
There will also be workshops during the event. Themes will be selected from proposals from ISCOWA and CEMU members. The main objective of the workshops is to prepare the research and application programmes which will educate scientists and engineers in the necessary skills for new, innovative and novel recycled materials application and pollution/contamination control. Several EU-supported initiatives for careers in engineering (funded through the Leonardo da Vinci programme) will be presented at the event.
Additionally, space will be available for an exhibition of equipment and information relating to the main themes of the conference.
