Harnessing energy from waves
The conference will also focus on the development of renewable energy technologies in relation to the European Union's white paper on 'Energy for the future: renewable sources of energy' which was adopted in 1998. This document develops the significance of renewable energy sources in Europe's strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Conference participants will also hear how the deployment of renewables can create jobs and regional development, taking the manufacturing of wind turbines as an example from which lessons can be learned.
'A European and global widespread deployment of the development efforts with regard to wave energy converter systems calls for a comprehensive exchange of information, ideas and tools and for international collaboration,' say the event organisers, who hope the conference and accompanying exhibition will create new opportunities.
The conference organisers are now calling for papers to be presented at the conference. These should mainly focus on one or several aspects of the following topics:
- wave energy resources;
- wave power converters;
- power takeoff systems;
- prototype tests;
- wave energy programmes.
