An international conference on computers helping people (ICCHP) with special needs is being held under the auspices of UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, in Karlsruhe, Germany, on 17 to 21 July 2000.

Correspondent to its mission, the conference aims to invite interdisciplinary thinking. The cube - the seventh ICCHP symbol - points at the different scientific fields networking with the information technology, encompassing communication, medicine, environment, technology, education, psychology, sociology and law.

UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura said: 'I fully recognize the importance of this conference which is in keeping with the organisation's mission to foster the use of information and communication technologies in education and, in particular, education for people with special needs.'

Experts working in research, development and the application of information and communication technology for people with special needs are invited to participate in the ICCHP 2000.
