World information - open to all?
The event will involve experts, scientists, politicians and artists, who will be discussing issues of the global media economy, digital human rights and future cultural heritage. It supplies views behind the structures and meta-structures of communication, raising awareness on the issues of the global media-matrix constituting what organisers call the 'socio-cultural Infosphere'.
Speakers and panellists will try to describe a world of unbalanced information channels, locating major nodes of infrastructure and crossroads of content development.
British journalist Duncan Campbell will talk about Echelon and global surveillance systems, and Philippe Queau, director of information and informatics division at UNESCO and founder of Webworld, will give a presentation.
Erkki Liikanen, Commissioner responsible for enterprise and the information society, will be among those present at the final round table discussion.
In addition to the conference, event organisers World-Information.Org will be presenting a three part exhibition in coordination with Brussels 2000 (European City of Culture), open until 30 July.
The world of information will be presented through an environment assembling exhibits and visual diagrams explaining the complex nature of information technologies, interactive installations and artistic works.
