Reducing social inequalities in health
The conference is organised by the City of Copenhagen and the Danish Ministry of Health in close co-operation with the World Health Organisation's regional Office for Europe. The conference will examine what can be done to reduce existing inequalities in health between various groups in society, by focussing on practical, real-world examples that represent valuable experience to others.
Besides the plenary sessions, four important areas will be underlined: workplace; local communities; health care services and urban development.
The conference will highlight the following aspects:
- existing social inequalities in health with examples from all over Europe;
- strategies and policies to reduce social inequalities in health from European, national, regional as well as city perspectives. What are the achievements and what are the lessons learnt?
- interventions to reduce health differences concentrating on examples of good practice.
The conference is targeted at decision makers at international, national and city levels all over Europe. In addition to health care professionals these include health promotion advisers and health and social planners, representatives from city governments, from regional and national authorities and from international organisations.
