The proposed European Research Area (ERA) and how it will affect the mobility and role of researchers will be the focus of the forthcoming 'Investing in Europe's human research potential' conference in Heraklion, Crete, from 4 to 7 October.

Four main themes will be addressed at the conference;

- matching needs and capacity of researchers in Europe;
- facilitating mobility of researchers and scientists in Europe;
- mobility as an instrument for the transfer of knowledge and technologies;
- adding a European dimension to scientific education.

The conference aims to provide a forum for researchers and research administrators to exchange views on experiences and mobility opportunities in Europe.
