The Centre for Sustainable Design, which works on advanced research into the development of eco-friendly products and services, has announced its fifth conference. 'Towards Sustainable Product Design', takes place in Stuttgart, Germany, on 23 and 24 October 2000.

Participants from countries including the UK, the USA, Korea, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands and from companies such as ICL, Johnson & Johnson, TRW Aeronautical Systems (Lucas Aerospace), and Rolls Royce will speak at the conference.

The Centre aims to offer practical help in interpreting and implementing new environmental legislation affecting the way businesses develop products and services. The conference will explain current thinking and look to possible future developments. 'It's a one-stop-shop for businesses looking for high quality content, new ideas, real life experience and networking opportunities,' say the event organisers.

Key issues to be covered fall into the two broad conference themes of the 'state of the art' in eco-design and the future of eco-design. Delegates and speakers will consider topics such as the management of eco-design within an organisation; methods of stimulating eco-innovation; tools for the product development process; shifts in customer behaviour and consumption; and the influence of integrated product policy and environmental product policy.
