A Swedish conference focusing on the EU-funded SUREURO project on sustainable refurbishment in Europe will take place on 16 and 17 November in Kalmar. The event aims to bring individuals and organisations methods, models and tools for sustainable refurbishment without incurring any extra costs or time in refurbishment.

Some 20 companies currently working on the project, including research organisations and consultants from seven European countries, will develop and maintain updated models and tools for all players involved in the sustainable process of refurbishing more than 56 million flats in need of attention. 'This could save an enormous amount of energy while at the same time improve the environment at no additional cost in time of investments compared with normal refurbishment,' claim the SUREURO team.

The target groups for SUREURO -models and tools are primarily the following:

- housing companies;
- construction companies;
- central, regional and local authorities;
- city planners and architects;
- technical consultants;
- tenants and their organisations.

During the next four years, SUREURO will arrange eight seminars around Europe. Each seminar will have a specific theme and aim at one of various target groups.

There will also be workshops during the seminar, in which participants will be able to express their opinions and ideas regarding sustainable refurbishment of residential areas.

The SUREURO project is funded by the 'City of tomorrow and Cultural heritage Key Action of the Energy, environment and sustainable development strand of the European Commission's Fifth Framework programme.
