Genetics and the future of Europe
This is the first event arranged by the European Commission's Life Sciences High Level Group. 'Focusing on genome information, its aim is to debate, with an open mind and with respect to cultural differences, the influence of an unprecedented access to genome information on economic growth, quality of life and fundamental human values,' explains the Commission.
The discussion platform will stimulate dialogue between representative groups, and focusing on four different themes: health, food, environmental and ethical issues. All discussion groups will strive to be inclusive and balanced.
After the opening by Commissioner Busquin, the discussion platform will include four sessions on Human Health, Food Integrity & Supply, Valuing BioDiversity and the Responsible use of Genetics as well as a round table. The meeting will be closed by Commissioners Byrne and Busquin.
Participation is by invitation only.
A press conference will also be held on 7th November at 11am and an Internet chat with Commissioner Busquin will take place on 7th November from 18:30 to 20:30.
