A symposium on space's role in protecting the environment and providing security will be taking place in Lille, France on 16 and 17 October with the attendance of European Commissioner for Research, Philippe Busquin.
One of the specific issues that will be discussed is the creation of a GMES (global monitoring for environment and security) programme. Individual topics which need to be addressed, such as global change and natural resources, will be discussed and a few concrete examples presented.The event is by invitation only.
