European Commissioner for Research, Philippe Busquin has invited the participation of any interested parties in an open Internet debate on the implications and future development of genetics following the decoding of the human genome.

The event will take place on seventh November between 18.30 and 20.30 (local Brussels time). Announcing the move, Commissioner Busquin said that he 'would like us to think together about the consequences for society of genetic advances, particularly trying to imagine their implications for basic values, quality of life, and social and economic development in Europe'.

Mr Busquin will also be attending the 'Genetics and the future of Europe' conference in Brussels on sixth and seventh of November in Brussels and hopes gather information from both scientific and public sources.
