A conference on 'New information and communication technologies for the maritime offshore business,' co-financed by the European Commission's Enterprise DG, will be held on 29 November in Livorno, Italy. The conference is part of the maritime information society project promoted by the European Commission, and is being organised by the Agence de Coopération pour l'Europe de la Mer.

Participants, who include representatives from the Enterprise DG, the Energy DG and the vice president of the European oil and gas innovation forum and several major European companies, will meet to discuss increased competitiveness, efficiency and safety in the offshore sector. Talks will be given on issues including maritime applications of advanced information technologies, the exploitation and production of oil in relation to the EU's Fifth Framework Programme and the use of virtual reality for safety and maintenance on offshore platforms and plants.
