Can the future help the past?
The conference aims to encourage European industrial participation, particularly of SMEs (Small and medium-sized enterprises), in the development and assessment of methodologies and technologies for protecting cultural heritage.
Promoting research networking and technology transfer in related sectors such as building and construction, engineering, products, equipment, and museum technologies will also feature, as will raising awareness and increasing involvement among national and local administrations and public and private organisations responsible for the management and sustainable exploitation of cultural heritage.
Examples demonstrating how SMEs and researchers working together can benefit both the economy and cultural heritage include SMEs' use of laser techniques to clean historically valuable buildings and shaped memory alloys to protect them from earthquakes. This will also have a corollary effect on the quality of urban life, and the tourist industry with consequent job creation.
The conference will focus on the following themes:
- damage assessment and balance between costs and benefits of preservation
- sustainable development of cities and preservation of cultural
heritage
- optical technologies for cultural heritage conservation
- conservation materials
- microclimate conditions for cultural heritage
- tourism and sustainable management of cultural heritageFor further information, please contact:
