For research results to be 'spun out' into successful companies, an element of networking is required. With this in mind, the 'research to reality' conference in Luxembourg sponsored by the innovation policy unit of the European Commission's DG Enterprise on 22 February 2001 will aim to bring together some key players to exchange ideas and practices.

The event will also see the launch of the unit's latest initiative, the 'Incubator financing network', which aims to create a permanent network offering projects and infant companies information about funding opportunities.

Research to reality aims to bring together transfer technology professionals, research institutes and universities, seed stage financiers and incubator managers and policy makers to discuss the various elements required to 'spin out' research success.

Speakers from Europe, the USA and Israel will also discuss the following topics:

- creation and benefits of networks
- spin-out success stories
- specific issues in spin-out support, such as project management, entrepreneurship in universities and seed investment
