European Green Week to promote environmental action

A 'Green Week', incorporating a conference and exhibition, and aimed at publicising the new environmental action programme for 2000 to 2009 is to take place from 24 to 28 April 2001.

The week is intended to bring together economic and social partners including SMEs and industry, civil society representatives, including research and scientific institutions and national, regional and local authorities. The week will offer these different groups the opportunity to synergise their experiences.

A number of thematic conferences, seminars and workshops will take place as part of the conference, focusing on the priority issues targeted in the new Environmental Action Programme: preventing climate change, protecting nature, environment and health, use of natural resources and waste management.

Additional events during the week include an internet chat with Environment commissioner Wallström on the new Environment Action Programme, a plenary session on Europe's women and sustainable development and the signing of a European environmental chart by European celebrities, including personalities from the world of science.For further information, please contact:
