This year's brain awareness week, kicks off on 12 March following what organisers form the European Dana Alliance for the Brain describe as the 'staggering success of last years event:

'From a multi-function brain park in Shanghai and brain talk show in Calcutta to interactive lectures in St Petersburg and an open-air brain fair in Plymouth, Brain awareness week 2000 reached its biggest international audience to date. More than 1,100 brain awareness week partners in 41 countries found imaginative ways to promote the benefits of brain research to students, medical and health professionals, and the general public.'

Brain awareness week is intended to give neuroscience specialists an opportunity to tell the public about their work.

The event is coordinated by the European Dana Alliance for the Brain and the Dana alliance for brain initiatives in the USA which aim to help provide partners with a forum to promote their work.
