Some 130 regions will be represented in Valencia, Spain, on 23 February, for the conference of peripheral maritime regions of Europe (CPMR). Discussions will revolve around a number of EU-level discussions relating to, for example, regional policy, research and development policy, innovation policy and fisheries policy.

The conference, organised by both the CPMR and the Communitat Valenciana, will focus on the challenges and prospects raised by the concept of a European research and innovation area with particular emphasis on the role of the regions.

A number of high level participants are expected to attend, including Research Commissioner, Philippe Busquin, and the Swedish Minister for research and education Thomas Ostros. Anna Birules, the Spanish research Minister and François-Xavier de Donnéa, President of the Brussels capital region, will also attend.

The conference organisers are now inviting those involved in research and development, innovation and regional policy to participate.

A visit of the new city of Valencia will be organised on Saturday 24 February for al participants.
