MARCOM 2001, a conference on maritime communications for the 21st century, will be held in London on 19 March 2001.

The conference aims to exploit the results of European co-financed maritime information society (MARIS) projects.

Keynote addresses will be given by representatives from both the European Commission's Enterprise Directorate-General and its Transport and Energy Directorate-General.

The provisional programme includes sessions on:

- The impact of the Fourth and Fifth RTD Frameworks programmes on maritime information society projects. Including workshops on: port community systems - VTS/VTMIS; and ship to shore communication - e-business for the maritime sector. A round table is also planned on 'how to extract commercial products/services from such projects.

- The tools at the disposal of the industry to select research project results and to find new co-financing opportunities for new projects under the Fifth and Sixth RTD framework programmes. (the CORDIS database and the ACEM/double trade, Welcom-Europe and Neptune websites.)

- A debate: interactive workshop presentation of European research projects from the European Commission' Fifth RTD Framework programme and the needs of the industry.
