Sixth international conference on the medical aspects of telemedicine

The sixth international conference of the International Society for Telemedicine (ISfT) will be held in Uppsala, Sweden, from June 18 to 21, 2001.
The conference will deal with medical aspects of telemedicine and e-health and show what kind of possibilities a diverse set of applications within IT, telecoms and the Internet is able to offer for future ways to conduct and organise healthcare.
The focus revolves around two fields of interest. On the individual level the focus will be on creating value for and together with patients. 'The use of Internet by patients and all caregivers is one of the key issues in this context,' say the event organisers. On the social level the focus will be on telemedicine as a tool to support a more equal distribution of healthcare in the world. Apart from reports of new scientific break-throughs related to technical innovations and practical applications, emphasis will be given to projects that allow for practical, cost-effective telemedical solutions that are integrated into daily clinical routine and can be copied on large scales all over the world.
The event is organised by the Centre for Telemedicine (CTM) at the University of Uppsala, in collaboration with the Swedish Association for Telemedicine and the Swedish Society of Medical Information Processing.
