A conference to be attended by the President of the European Commissioner Romano Prodi, Enterprise Commissioner Erkki Liikanen and Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pedro Solbes, focusing on the potential impact of the e-economy on EU enterprises and policies, is to take place in Brussels on 1 and 2 March.

The aim of the event is to gain an understanding of the changes brought by digital technologies in the economy and of their implications for policy making.

In addition to the Commissioner and Commission staff, participants will include, around 200 high-level industrialists, entrepreneurs, consumer representatives and academics.

A series of workshops will analyse the impact of digital technologies on different industry and service sectors and examine the implications for policy making, particularly with regard to the internal market.

A growing number of companies are preparing for the e-economy, but the extent of the future changes is not yet fully understood. It is hoped that the conference will aid comprehension of the e-economy's impact on selected industry and service sectors and provide a broad perspective on new economic developments, with a focus on structural changes.
