An international conference in the field of tissue engineering will be held on 9 and 10 October in Hanover, Germany, during the biotechnology fair 'Biotechnica 2001'.

The aim of the 'second transdisciplinary conference on principles and perspectives in regenerative medicine' is to promote an international exchange of experience in presenting the latest scientific developments in the field as well as promoting transfer of innovative research or technologies and cooperations between scientists and industry.

This year, the biennial conference will specifically focus on the scientific and technical aspects for the production of high value cells and tissues for medical engineering applications.

The many noted European and US scientists invited will discuss the actual limitations and advances of instrumentation and present their last research and technical developments for the creation in vitro of artificial tissues and organs.

The conference will last one and a half days during which three plenary sessions will be organised addressing the following main subjects:

- bioengineering challenges in tissue engineering;
- monitoring challenges in tissue engineering;
- industrial requirements for tissue engineering and socio-economic perspectives and ethical aspects.
