Ottawa is to host the 12th international conference of women engineers and scientists 'women in a knowledge based society' from 27 to 31 July 2002.

The conference, held every three years at different locations, aims to challenge the world to a new vision of women's roles and contribution in the areas of science, engineering and technology.

It will consist of a series of presentations and posters on technical topics and on issues of concern to women engineers and scientists.

The organisers are now calling for papers on the following subjects:

- promoting multidisciplinary and gender equity, including youth;
- affirmative action and policies;
- women in industry (family friendly organisations);
- women in computing;
- women in engineering;
- philosophy and women in science.
