An international workshop on bioencapsulation XI will be held in Warsaw, Poland, from 11 to 13 May, 2001.

The event aims to provide an opportunity to meet representatives of universities, governmental and industrial laboratories from many countries and to exchange information in the multidisciplinary area of bioencapsulation. This meeting is supported by the European Commission's COST 840 action, UNESCO, ESA and industrial sponsorships. Grants are also available for young scientists and emerging country researchers.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

- encapsulation technologies ;
- microcapsule characterization;
- encapsulation engineering;
- biomedical and pharmaceutical applications;
- food applications;
- animal and plant cell immobilisation;
- biotechnology and environment.

COST 840 management committee and working group meetings, an ESA topical team meeting (microencapsulation and microgravity), and an INTAS bioencapsulation project meeting will be organised in parallel to the workshop.

The event is organised by the Bioencapsulation research group (BRG), the Institute of biocybernetics and biomedical engineering (IBIB) and the International centre of biocybernetics (MCB).
