Researcher mobility and the Australian experience of the Fifth Framework programme are just two of the issues that will feature at the forthcoming FEAST event (Forum for European-Australia science and technology cooperation) in Canberra, Australia on 30 and 31 May, 2001.

One of the aims of this first meeting is to foster further research collaboration between the two sides through increased awareness and identification of areas of mutual benefit.

A number of online fora, which are designed to help prepare for the FEAST 1 workshops are already available on the Internet. These cover the following areas

- user needs and future directions of FEAST
- developing international exchange of researchers
- applied research and innovation: establishing international links
- the Australian experience of FP4 and FP5; lessons for FP6
- emerging research trends and opportunities.
