A seminar on financing higher education will be held in Helsinki, Finland, on 30 and 31 August 2001.

The seminar will provide a forum for analysing and debating current issues in financing in higher education. Discussion will take place in the perspective of current pressures that take two main directions, say the event organisers: On the one hand, ministries and other public funding agencies are required to cover more activities with less, unchanged or only slightly increased financial resources. On the other hand, higher education institutions within the changing environment are expected to respond to new needs.

'The seminar will be international in outlook, bringing in perspectives and models from various countries each with their history and present policy on higher education funding, These outlooks will provide background for discussions between policy makers and university representatives,' say the event organisers.
