Belgian Presidency plans ERA and social sciences conference
The conference aims to highlight the potential of the social sciences and the humanities in contributing to the establishment of the European Research Area (ERA). It also plans to look at their contribution to Europe's strategic goals for 2000 to 2005 - that is promoting new forms of European governance, stabilising Europe through enlargement and cooperation, implementing a new economic and social agenda and improving the quality of life of the individual citizen.
The conference is conceived as the first in a series of European conferences on the social sciences and the humanities. Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin is envisaged to participate in the closing plenary.
Some of the areas to be covered at the conference are: governance, citizenship and civil society, science, technology and social change: the role of foresight, research infrastructures for the social sciences and the humanities, challenges for the social sciences and the humanities within the ERA and the policy relevance of research.don wFor further information, please contact:
