The European Commission's President, four European Commissioners and 300 representatives from research and academia will gather in Brussels on 27 and 28 June for the 'An enlarged Europe for researchers' conference.

The event is a joint initiative between Mr Prodi and European Commissioner for Research, Philippe Busquin, and will seek to analyse the financial cultural, social and legal issues which need to be confronted in order to achieve full researcher mobility within Europe. Also providing input will be Commissioners Diamantopoulou (Employment and Social affairs), Vitorino (Justice and Home affairs) and Reding (Education and Culture).

The conference could provide a major advance in clarifying how the proposed European Research Area (ERA) could work in helping to boost scientific excellence. It will also analyse the tools available to Europe in creating a knowledge-based society, the goal set at the Lisbon Summit during the Portuguese presidency.For further information, please contact:
