The Association of European science and technology transfer professionals (ASTP) is organizing a hands-on course on 'Science-based patenting and licensing' on 11 and 12 October 2001 in Barcelona, Spain.

Plenary and parallel sessions led by experienced speakers from Europe as well as the USA will cover a wide range of subjects. The conference will highlight the most recent developments to date and every day problems in university-industry patenting and licensing.

Key themes of the event are (provisionally):
- patenting the post-genomics era
- patent strategy
- patentability of research tools
- experimental use exemption
- protecting software and databases
- establishing inventorship and ownership
- dealing with infringement and enforcement
- licensing research tools and databases
- effective licensing from universities
- licensing: valuation and structuring considerations (equity, royalty, running royalty)
- role play

The conference will take place in the Hotel Melia Confort Campus of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain and hopes to attract around 100 people related to technology transfer within Europe and Israel.For further information please contact:
