A seminar on the Urban Environment and European Policies is to be held in Brussels on 3 and 4 October 2001.

The event is being organised by the Brussels Institute for Environmental Management and the Brussels Capital Region in co-operation with the EU Committee of the Regions.

The main aim of the seminar is to follow on from the work of the Porto environmental summit of April 2000 in exploring the role of European policy in tackling the growing challenges facing European towns and cities.

The seminar will include lectures by environmental experts and representatives from the EU and the Belgian government. The event will culminate in a round table debate on the Urban Environment and the European Commission's Sixth Environmental Action Programme. Prudencio Perera-Manzanedo, from the Directorate-General for the Environment, will be representing the Commission's point of view. The seminar will be held at the European Parliament, in the Espace Leopold in Brussels. For further information, please contact:
