Transport exhibition to showcase new technology

The fruits of transport research, including an EC-fundedproject, will be on display on 15 and 16 September at an exhibition to be held in conjunction with the Informal Council of European Transport and Environment Ministers at the Aula Magna in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.

The exhibition will showcase the latest in transport technology, including a new digital tachograph designed to supercede the traditional paper version. The device, developed with European Commission funding in partnership with ERTICO (Intelligent transport Systems and Services - Europe), tracks the movements of commercial vehicles and records the information in a handy swipe-card format.

The central theme of the Council and the exhibition is the integration of transport and environmental policy. The event will be attended by all Member State transport and environment ministers and their delegates, DG Transport Commissioner and EC Vice President Loyola de Palacio and Environment Commissioner Margot Wallström, as well as other EU and Belgian officials.

The exhibition will also feature other key technologies and initiatives to make transport 'greener' and more efficient, such as real-time traffic information and automatic payment systems.For further information, please contact:
