A conference focusing uniquely on sustainable services and systems (3S) will be held in De Rode Hoed, The Netherlands on 29 and 30 October. The conference aims to review research, experience and best practice in sustainable consumption in the run up to the Rio +10 summit next year.

Representatives from the European Commission, academics and business leaders from Europe, Asia and America will focus on the potential for reducing material and energy consumption through a shift to services and intangible products and will consider whether 3S solutions can significantly reduce environmental impacts. More specifically, the conference will ask how 3S can be shown to be quantifiably more environmentally friendly than products, why readiness to accept 3S varies significantly between cultures and what the benefits to business are.

The event will include workshops on mobility, clothing, home, work and leisure, and will be headed by senior staff from major European companies, including Motorola and British Airways. For further information, please contact Russel White
