The closing workshop for the TRA-EFCT (targeted research action on environmentally friendly construction technologies) network, which will launch the new European construction research network project, E-CORE, will take place in Rimini, Italy on 11 and 12 October 2001.

E-CORE aims to achieve common strategic objectives for the construction sector and to contribute to the creation of a strong and effective European research area (ERA) for the European construction industry.

E-CORE is to be a network involving 66 partners from 20 countries, 14 of them EU Member States. The network will represent a 'single entry point' for stakeholders seeking the latest technological advances in construction research and will function as a reference group for developing future RTD (research and technological development) strategies in this sector as well as a forum to exchange information and set up research cooperation beyond national borders. The network will receive EC funding of 2.7 million euro.

The workshop will offer the opportunity to collate the views of the European Commission, industry and the end users on the forthcoming Framework programme for research. Particular areas of interest for the construction industry are information society technologies (IST), nanotechnologies, intelligent materials and new production processes and sustainable development and global change.

With this in mind, three parallel sessions have been organised:
- reviewing past achievements through presentations of state of the art reports and posters;
- formulating and debating views for the future through round table and open discussion;
- preparing for the next Framework programme by offering networking opportunities aiming at new proposals and/or networks of excellence for the construction sector.For further information on TRA-EFCT, please consult the following web address: http://www.tra-efct.com/workshop(opens in new window)
