An investigation into what constitutes innovation, how it is best created and how to measure it will feature at a forthcoming event in Killiney, County Dublin, Ireland on 4 and 5 October.

Organised by the Six countries programme, the event, entitled 'merging innovation cultures - leveraging creativity for competitive advantage' is hosted by Ireland's Forfas organisation. The Six countries programme is a network of experts policymakers and practitioners working in the policymaking area of research and innovation.

Speakers at the event will include the former director-general of the European Commission's Research DG, Professor Jorma Routti, Glorianna Davenport of the MIT (Massachusetts institute of technology) media lab and professor Paul Rutten of the Netherlands' university of Rotterdam and TNO. The event will be opened by Ireland's minister for arts and science and technology and representatives from industrial, educational and cultural organisations are expected to attend.

'The conference will examine the particular relationship between innovation and creativity exploring the role that government, education and the creative industries can play in building a comprehensive intellectual infrastructure,' said a representative of the organisers.

Two plenary sessions and four workshops will divide the event into specific themes.
