The European Space Agency (ESA) is to host a conference for Europe's teachers to demonstrate how space technology can help them to inspire the space explorers, scientists and engineers of tomorrow.

TEACH SPACE 2001 will take place at the ESA's ESTEC centre in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, from 26 to 28 October.

The conference is designed to help European teachers of all disciplines use the International Space Station (ISS) - the largest international project of all time in which Europe plays a significant role - to inspire their students with the excitement of space technology and travel. It is hoped that the event will help to stem the steady decrease in the number of students studying sciences by encouraging teachers to generate interest in the area.

European astronauts will give presentations, guide teachers through a 'virtual tour' of the ISS and be on hand to answer questions. The conference will also include presentations by ESA representatives from the Earth observation, Life and physical sciences and Space exploration directorates. Teachers will be able to share their needs and expectations with the ESA in special working group sessions. For further information on the conference and registration, please contact:
