The participants of a project on innovation for SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) co-funded by the European Commission will gather in Bologna, Italy on 26 October to discuss the lessons learnt after three years on the project.

The TETRIS project ran from 1998 and ended in June 2001, having formed a network for the exchange of best practices in innovation among European SMEs. The details of these were analysed and validated before being exchanged with other European regions. Supported by the DG Enterprise's innovation programme, the project's participants (from Ireland, Italy, Spain and Portugal) found that the practice of innovation exchange in Europe threw up some interesting issues, which the conference in Bologna is designed to address.

The principal areas to be discussed are the experiences of the participants in disseminating innovation practice to SMEs, the challenges involved in carrying this out on a European as well as a regional level, the implications for innovation policy of a knowledge-based economy and the future development and enlargement of the TETRIS network.isioFor further information, please contact:
